Tribal Areas have been declared in the State of Karnataka in 10 districts (Bidar,Uttara Kannada, Dharwad, Koppal, Chitradurga, Ramanagara, Kodagu, Davangere,Mysore and Chamrajnagar) of Karnataka with the population of 80,000 (Eighty thousand) among Jenu Kuruba, Betta Kuruba, Kadu Kuruba, Soliga, Paniya, Erava, Siddi,gonda, Nayaka, Valmiki, Beda, Hakki Pikki, Malekudiya, and Iruliga.
BIRDS have taken measures to provide educational facilities and emphasis is being laid on vocational and technical training. According to these measures, concessions, stipends, scholarships, books, stationery and other equipments are provided. Residential schools have been set up for them.
In addition, BIRDS help them to purchase livestock, fertilizer, agricultural equipment and better seeds. Cattle breeding and poultry farming are also being encouraged among these people.
